Letter clock

I have made two different sizes of letter clocks as gifts for friends and family. The size of the letter clock is based on the spacing of LEDs on a Neopixel LED-strip, since this allowed for a simple design of the grid behind the front plate. The brain of the clock is a custom PCB with a ESP32-C3, designed to be narrow enough to fit in the margin around the LED grid. The PCB also contains an LDR to allow for variable brightness of the clock.

The front and sides of the clock are laser cut from 3 mm MDF with laminated walnut veneer. Using linseed oil, the walnut really comes alive and shows its bright brown pattern. Since the back of the clock is not visible, it is made from cheaper 3 mm laser cutting triplex.
